The Hayes Zoo

Our Purpose

- to know God and use our entire lives in service to Him.

- to stand in the gap through prayer, giving and service to viable ministries in Latin America.

- to be transparent helpers of fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, using our resources and skills that through the Holy Spirit, we might encourage and equip those who have less.

- to share a living perspective from Latin America to our churches, friends and family in the states and beyond.

Who We Are

We are the Hayes family - Alan, Faith, Riley, Janelle and Natalie.  Our journey in missions has included several turns and twists.  Before going into foreign mission work, we lived near Vancouver WA, where Alan worked as a Mechanical Engineer.

We originally came to the mission field in 2005 to work at a children's home in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico.  This children's home was supported in part by our home and sending church, Hockinson Community Church.  We worked in Chihuahua state for 3 years, doing maintenance and odd jobs at various children's homes and serving on staff with Eduventure Mexico for one semester.

In September 2008 we left northern Mexico and drove to Gracias, Lempira, Honduras to work with the Sowers family there.  Our work there was focused on equipping the local pastors of the area, with some community development and humanitarian projects on the side.

Since December 2009 we have been living and working in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico.  Our work here involves making audio recordings of the bible in the languages of indigenous and illiterate people groups of that area.  More information on our current work can be found on our 'What We Did In Oaxaca' page.

We now seem to have completed a circle of sorts.  We are back in Vancouver, WA at present.  The doors for our family returning to the field in full time, international missions closed due to lack of funding.  We have had to make the hard decision to stay in the states.  For now, that means returning to the work force so that we can continue to support and love on some of the families and missionaries we were blessed to either work with longer term, or just brush elbows with in service.  We feel incredibly blessed to have been given a bigger window in living out some hard things and seeing God there.

We are currently looking for full time employment and watching and waiting to see in which direction God moves us.  We will update as we have new info.
